(New) Video: Cults - 'Go Outside'
It's the song that's already soundtracked a bunch of adverts and TV montages (from hit series Weeds to, erm, Sky Sports' Cricket World Cup coverage), and now 'Go Outside' by New York indie-pop duo Cults is being dusted off yet again. The xylophone-led track is to be given an August 29 single (re)release via Lily Allen's new Columbia Records imprint In The Name Of. The buzz tune has already appeared in several incarnations since it first surfaced on the band's Bandcamp page last summer – most recently on their self-titled debut LP, released last month.
In addition to the original track, this latest edition will feature remixes from Two Bears and Luca C & Brigante, and is being preceded by a brand new video. The band obviously weren't happy with February's 'MTV Supervideo' treatment of the track, so they got director Isaiah Seret to come up with a visually arresting, albeit slightly creepy, promo that sees band members Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin being inserted into archive footage of doomed Jonestown cult members (they're called CULTS - geddit?!?). Some of the folks commenting over on Boing Boing – where the vid premiered – clearly aren't happy with what they see as cheap exploitation, although maybe they should take the song's advice and get some fresh air. Decide for yourselves below.
Cults will be appearing at the upcoming Reading and Leeds festivals (August 27 & 28), as well as at the following UK live dates of their own:
CULTS // LIVE IN THE UK // AUGUST 2011:
Aug 22 @ The Bowery, Sheffield
Aug 23 @ Haymakers, Cambridge
Aug 24 @ Flapper, Birmingham
Aug 30 @ Tunnels, Aberdeen
Aug 31 @ Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow
